One of the gifts I am the most thankful for in this lifetime thus-far is a conversation my Grandmother had with me when I was about 12. She was an immigrant who arrived here at age 15 at Ellis Island. She spoke no English. She came with her Mother. They had family here and left the old country to get away from the Socialistic Regime, so to speak. With wars raging in Europe and no hope of any future, my Great-Grandmother put herself and her daughter on a boat in 1915 for America. There was hope for a safe and happy life here.
But that's really another story.... (yes, she became an American citizen and spoke mainly English the entire time I knew her)...
She pulled me aside as my father and I stopped over to visit for a bit. While he had some things to take care of for her, she sat down at the metal kitchen table and pulled my hands closer. Very seriously, she said that there was something she wanted to tell me and I needed to pay attention.
She went on to tell me that there would be many times in my life that it would not feel like fun. No matter what happens, we keep going! She repeated.... NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS.... WE KEEP GOING!!!
It stuck. This was one of the rare times she had this kind of a conversation with me, and I paid attention!
Little did I know until well after her crossing over, that she indeed had had her share of losses, personal, family, more than I ever could imagine! She was stubborn, strong and did not give in to others until her maker called her home.
I did pay attention and I'm very thankful that I did! I've had my share of losses, personal, family tragedies beyond the average person's span of reality, and more. And every time I heard her voice telling me "NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS... WE KEEP GOING!!!"
I share this very personal story with you now, as I wish for YOU, to pay attention. You may loose a lover, a parent, a child. You may lose loved ones in horrific ways. You may have hungry times and lean times. You may ride high and feel on top of the world. (Hopefully you will share with those less fortunate than yourself). But through it all.... remember this
NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS... WE KEEP GOING!!!
